Vitra Furniture - The company project

Vitra furnishings, it is not a question of simple objects and furniture for furnishing. The Vitra project started in Basel and Weil am Rhein in the year 1957, when the company's founders, Willi and Erika Fehlbaum, started producing furniture by Charles, Ray Eames and George Nelson.

Over the years, the Vitra project has embraced many aspects related to design and comfort. The work of this company is based on the belief that everyday life has great potential for inspiration and aesthetic enjoyment, and that design can discover and develop this potential.

Vitra design, design furniture and functionality

the designer should exercise self-control and devote himself completely to the task of solving problems. Yet design is still ultimately a matter of individual authorship, of creative people who develop solutions based on their analysis of the criteria and parameters of a problem. For this reason Vitra always works with designers who possess the capacity for authorship, that is to say who not only have creative skills, but who invest their work with a personal vision of the world. Their projects carry a message that goes far beyond the urge to simply try to please.
